While this is a relatively common mushroom most of us don't recognize it as a mushroom. It grows up to 12" across and in clusters. This group was found on a log 16 meters (40') long and held perhaps as much as 28 kilos (61 pounds). They are edible but as usual precautions must always be taken, specifically the ones attached to Conifer or Cedar and also Eucalyptus trees (according to this site-https://www.mushroom-appreciation.com/chicken-of-the-woods.html). I enjoy just shooting them for their interesting appearance and intricacies of detail.

Since I was a very young boy on the farm, 6 or 7, I have been shooting everything in my line of sight. In those early days I found that anything could inspire me. Grasshoppers and Gartner snakes to coyotes and eagles, as well a rows of crops we grew. Great DOF Mushrooms are mysterious and a great subject I know of a photographer that does nothing but mushrooms
